Happy Sunday and welcome to all the new "likers"!
If supper time is chaos and you are tired of shelling out cash on fast food, here is the first of three great meal planning systems. Come back next Sunday for installment #2.
DIY meal planning-
Stuck in a cooking rut? This calendar or your own version keeps you from having to think too hard to come up with meal ideas. You just print and write in a meal for the assigned category for each day.
Sunday- This is the cook's day off. Everyone can make and eat whatever they want with what is already in the kitchen. It's a great way to get rid of leftovers or force your family to get creative. Ramen with wieners anyone?
At our house this is the day that you can get away with cereal for lunch.
Monday-Slow Cooker. You want to do this on your busiest day of the week. This way dinner is taken care of before you even leave for work.
Tuesday-Mexican. Examples: enchiladas, burritos, tostadas, nachos. You can also do taco Tuesday, just mix it up and a make a different kind of tacos each week.
Wednesday-Americana. Examples: Burgers(I know they are technically German), chicken(baked, fried, rotisserie, strips), hot dogs, barbecue.
Thursday-Italian. Examples: spaghetti, ravioli, chicken alfredo, pizza.
Friday-Cold food. Examples: various sandwiches or salads.
Saturday-Breakfast for supper. I think we all know the days when you have breakfast for supper are the best. Examples: Pancakes(We have tried bacon pancakes, peanut butter pancakes, lemon pancakes and pumpkin pancakes!), omelets, biscuits and gravy.
After you fill out your menu, make a shopping list based on how often you like to shop. I prefer to do a big shop once a month getting everything but meats and produce which I pick up each week.
Have a great week Brown County! And enjoy your labor day!
